People often prefer not to talk about religion because it is such a controversial topic. Controversial is defined as “giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement” and religion does just that. This is because there are so many different religions in the world and many religions have different views/beliefs than others. These different views and beliefs make it hard for people to discuss because most conversations revolving around religion become tense. Which is why religion and politics are conversations that are said not to be discussed at the dinner table. Another reason people do not like to talk about religion is because many people practice their religions differently. For instance you can have two Christians that both believe in god but one goes to church faithfully and the other chooses not to go to church. Both of these people believe in the same god and study the same book but can easily look at each other differently because of the way they worship. Religion also has so many aspects that make it hard to discuss. There are so many rules and guidelines that come with religion that many people would not even know where to start when discussing it during a normal day to say conversation. I would go as far as considering religion to be a intimate conversation. I say this because one has to be really comfortable either with the person or their setting to openly talk about and backup their religious beliefs. Religion conversations take up so much energy that not many people engage in them regularly.
